He has written many books that focus on leadership. Titles such as the 21 irrefutable laws of leadership and the 21 indispensable qualities of a leader.
John Calvin Maxwell is an American author, speaker and pastor who has written many books primarily focusing on leadership. His book has sold millions of copies, with some on the New York Times best seller list. He was named among the 25 authors to Amazon. com's 10th anniversary hall of fame.
As a result of his good work, he was named the world's No.1 leadership and strategy specialist by Inc. magazine in May 2014.
Maxwell was born on 20th February, 1947 in the Garden city, Michigan an Evangelical Christian to the family of Melvin Maxwell and Laura Maxwell. He followed his father into the ministry.
John Maxwell grew up in the 1950s in the small mid Western City of Circleville, Ohio. His earliest childhood memory is that he will become a pastor. He professed his faith in Christ at the age of 13. At the age of 17, He began preparing for ministry.
His journey began as a pastor of a small church in Ohio where he learned that leadership started with developing himself and connecting with others.
He attended Circleville Bible college, where he gained his bachelor's degree in 1969. A master of divinity degree at Azusa Pacific University and a Doctor of ministry degree at Fuller theological seminary.
He moved to a small church at Hillham, Indiana. Where he began his first pastorate.
While serving in his church, he began to study and relate between leadership effectiveness and ministry effectiveness.
He also assisted other pastors in establishing their Church. In 1980, he was asked to become executive director of the evangelism for the Wesleyan denomination.
Due to his Influence at the Wesleyan University, he has a building named after him and his family at Indiana, Wesleyan University. And also the Maxwell center for business and leadership, as a result of his Influence on the Wesleyan church.
Since the 1970s, John Maxwell has led churches in Indiana, Ohio, California and Florida. After serving as a senior pastor for 14 years, he left skyline church in 1995.
In 2004, Maxwell returned to congregational ministry at Christ fellowship in Palm Beach gardens, Florida. On November 16, John Maxwell began serving as a guest pastor at Crystal Cathedral in Orange county, California.
In 1985, he founded a new company called INJOY and created the INJOY life club, featuring a monthly tape for leaders. He also founded the ISS.
He is frequently asked to speak for organizations, such as promise keepers and focus on the family, but his greatest joy and desire is to help pastors become better leaders.

John Calvin Maxwell got married after earning his bachelor's degree in 1969 in June to his lovely wife Margaret. And which the union is blessed with two children, a daughter Sarah Elizabeth Miller and a son Joel Porter Maxwell.
John Calvin Maxwell currently resides in South Florida with his wife Margaret. He is an ordained minister in the Wesleyan church.
